EXCURSION!!!

On Friday, 8th June, the Year 12 Standard English class visited the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre for a production of their Module A Prescribed Text, The Shoe Horn Sonata, by playwright John Misto. This performance, staged by Emu Heights Productions Inc., had them captivated and proved to be a valuable resource to their ever-growing understanding of the play and its meaning. Furthermore, an invaluable treat for the students was the Question and Answer time. As it so happened, the playwright himself, John Misto, made a surprise appearance, answering a number of questions for the hungry minds in great detail, evoking many emotions with his stories. A play that pays tribute to the Australian Army Nurse Prisoners of War in WWII, Misto explained to the students that he wrote the play as a memorial to the women, of which they have been neglected for far too long. He is quoted as saying, "I do not have the power to build a memorial. So I write this play instead...". Many of the students were able to recognise and value the fact that they were a privileged few, having had an opportunity that possibly no other students in the state of NSW have had.
